December, 2007 PICA celebrates 25 years as a leader in loss prevention, brand protection, risk management and corporate security consulting.
A word from the CEO
In 1982, I had a vision to create a global company that would integrate public and private security initiatives and create opportunity for its employees, clients and those it touched.
After a quarter century of service in and around the security and law enforcement community, I believe PICA has accomplished this and more. I am personally proud of our accomplishments, growth and team. In fact, we have handled the most difficult challenges and have created solutions that have stood the test of time to become the gold standard in our industry.
We would like to share a bit of this history with you.
When we put the last 25 years into perspective, PICA has been at the vanguard of "emerging crimes" enforcement, loss prevention innovation and intuitive risk management. This has included spearheading intellectual property and Internet fraud crime legislation and enforcement nationally and internationally through education, training and prosecution; predicting threats and response protocols to previously unimaginable risks; and developing global models for best business practices that have worked in emerging economies.
Examples of our leadership include our pre-NAFTA entry into Latin America and our development of integrated supply chain management programs in Asia Pacific before China became a global powerhouse. We have helped support development and use of natural resources in Africa and the Middle East in a responsible, productive and environmentally friendly way, before this became required or fashionable. Closer to home, we have helped modernize loss prevention in iconic institutions like the US National Institute of Health and created high-rise security and chemical and biological terrorism response protocols in advance of 911, which were subsequently used as private-sector models by the NYPD.
We have seized quantities of counterfeit and contraband merchandise commensurate with that seized by the United States Customs service (now ICE). We have partnered with ICE and other US and foreign enforcement agencies in multi-national training and enforcement initiatives. We have collaborated with institutions like the US FDA to protect the integrity of medical supply channels and global markets in the health care industry, helping to protect innocent consumers from counterfeit products ranging from pharmaceuticals to surgical medical equipment.
We have protected consumers and manufacturers in fields as diverse as foods and drugs, replacement parts for machinery and vehicles, software and technology and luxury goods and entertainment. We have helped to open new markets and protect existing ones, creating opportunities domestically and abroad and fighting unfair competition and restraint of trade.
The part of our history for which I am most proud, though, is the footprint we have left in the places we have tread. Through PICA and our employees, we have helped to directly and indirectly create jobs, investment, tax revenue and social programs in the New World and at home. We have also helped fight organized crime, terrorist funding and corruption in an increasingly global economy through our efforts to develop new opportunities and industries in oftentimes hostile social and business environments around the globe. Over the past 25 years, we have worked tirelessly to keep at bay these enemies of the people, fair trade and democracy.
Today, we see ourselves as one of the "thin blue lines" standing between civilized society and those that would exploit and/or corrupt our world and impede development and opportunity. We protect the world's most valuable brands so that they, in turn, can give back to the areas where they develop, manufacture and sell their goods and services and to their home countries.
Tomorrow, we hope to continue to be at the forefront of emerging sectors that will fuel the economy of the future with our innovative and insightful thinking, uniquely qualified resources and creative processes. PICA is our legacy and the collective patrimony of all of the people that have been a part of it and the beneficiaries of its services. I am confident it will continue to be a responsible and productive corporate citizen and asset to our global village in the years to come.
